Shiny Happy People

I was recently commissioned to create illustrations live on camera. They were all for a short employee film for a global management consultancy. My hands were filmed drawing - accompanying the movie trailer-esque voice-over.

The narration had me drawing things like DNA, Amsterdam, beach balls, stethoscopes, sandcastles, waves and ... wait for it .... men in red fishnet stockings. Stay tuned for the video - to be uploaded soon. In the meantime hit the link to see some more shots and the whole set up.

All these people are actual employees, so I had to capture all their likenesses in one take wih no pencil guides or cheating!

Here's the storyboard - all the different drawings linked together (those are photos of my actual hand)

Here's the set up - normally took a frame or two per second - had to draw at speed AND not get my fat head in the way.

WAFC Away

The notorious WAFC were on tour in Valencia last month, and needed a new tour kit to intimidate the international competition (results to follow - think they won by four wickets to a try). The logo was updated, and loads of gold stars were added above the crest to indicate that they'd all been trained in how to use the deep fat fryer.

Most importantly they said that they looked so professional in their new strip and matching tracksuits that someone actually asked them for their autographs at the airport.

I created portraits of the whole YP team for the site, even the dogs (although between you and me they're really not pulling their weight). I've been working closely with YP for a while, and made it into the hall of fame (am still trying to push through the employee of the month thing, with stars on name badges - yet to hear back. Hello, HR?)

Just got some photos of a tee I designed for Bristol Softball team the Ice Cold Pitchers. They needed a kit so Mabboo was only too happy to help, along with some help from the team's sponsors: the South Gloucestershire Coach & Bus Co. (catchy - yeah try laying THAT out nicely on the back of a shirt!) Apparently it gave them 'the edge' on its debut wearing - with the team coming back from 8 runs down to win 27-25. This means nothing to me. Who scored?

Ran the NASS en Masse 10km in Richmond Park at the weekend. The race was started by a local MP. I only knew who he was because he was the only person wearing a suit in a park on a Sunday morning. Here is a picture of my certificate. I also received a medal. The Wall of Gaylord continues to grow. Thanks to everyone who sponsored me.

Ran the 16 mile Kingston Breakfast Run last weekend. (FYI: no breakfast was provided) Ran it in 2 hours 26 minutes and 14 seconds - smashing a WHOLE 60 SECONDS off of last year's time. Prize for consistency? In the post I am told, along with the bacon sandwich as well I should hope.

Blas Burgerworks Mural

Here's some haphazard pics of our recent mural for Blas Burgerworks, St Ives. It was their 5th birthday this week so we went down to decorate one of their walls live at their very over-subscribed birthday party. As well as their slogan, logo, a whole load of clouds, a burger (NOT to scale), their shopfront and a picturesque view of St Ives bay we also managed to squeeze in a couple of local monuments, the sun, a tree and some blackboard paint speech bubbles for some happy customer comments.

A humongous big thanks to Alice for motivation and awesome painting within the lines (a LOT better than mine!), and to Marie, Sal & Lisa at Blas for all the fab food (& beer!). Like them on Facebook, and hit see some more to literally see some more...

As well as celebrating five years of Blas, the night also raised lots of money for Shelter Box and the West Cornwall Beekeepers Association

The Lost Boys are setting off on the Mongol Rally in a couple of weeks. They're doing-up the Blue Bullet as we speak - decorating it with their logo that I designed, along with some of their sponsors' stickers and ads. And in an unexpected blast from the past - the Blue Bullet is also sporting a Gasbusters poster I created last year. Hit the jump for a couple more shots of the car.

You'll be pleased to know that the car is also sporting a sticker for yours truly - so the people of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Kazakhstan will know where to come for all their design and illustration requirements in the future...

Completed the NASS 10km run in Richmond Park the other weekend, managing to raise over £200 for NASS' work on Ankylosing spondylitis. The "Wall of Gaylord" is growing - here's Arnie and a toad storm-trooper with the latest addition (FYI I don't know who came ninth). Thanks to all those who sponsored me - don't panic if you didn't - you didn't miss anything - I was old school & lo fi & Blue Peter & took down names with pen & paper - with a totalometer I wheeled out every now and then...
